Biography
Ijeoma Opara is a PhD candidate in Political Science at Stellenbosch University, under the auspices of the SARChi Chair in Gender Politics. Her PhD project explores the experiences of slay queens in post-apartheid South Africa through the lens of black postfeminist theory. After being awarded the Mandela Rhodes Scholarship in 2017, she went on to complete her Master’s in International Relations at the University of Cape Town. Ijeoma’s broader research interests include gender politics and black feminist theory. She is also a freelance creative writer and research consultant with a keen interest in African politics, migration studies, identity politics, and feminist studies.
