Alesha Bredell is currently in the first year PhD program at AvreQ and the Visual Arts department. Her PhD research focuses on the potential of arts-based curatorial research to address Stellenbosch Universities’ complicity in various forms of erasure and whitewashing of the Afrikaans language. The aim of her research, with a focus on decolonial curatorial praxis, is to explore how interdisciplinary works produced by artists, poets, musicians and writers can be presented to communicate the historical complexities and ideological nuances of a divisive language to a diverse demographic with conflicting interests on SU’s campus.
