AVReQ is pleased to announce the addition of Jessica Yost to our community as a Visiting MA Fellow. Jessica’s academic journey and professional experiences reflect a profound commitment to promoting positive behaviour change and creating healthier, happier communities.

Currently pursuing dual master’s degrees in public health and social work at the University of Michigan, Jessica brings expertise from her work in the youth development non-profit sector. Her focus on health behaviour, health equity, and interpersonal clinical practice underscores her holistic approach to addressing complex social challenges.
Jessica’s international experiences in San Francisco, Lusaka, and East London, South Africa, have deepened her understanding of the diverse needs of transition-aged young adults. Her decade-long connection to Southern Africa and her eagerness to explore the Western Cape during her tenure with AVReQ showcase her dedication to meaningful engagement in global communities.

Jessica will be visiting us from 13 May to 6 July 2024.

During her fellowship, Jessica will collaborate with Dr. Samantha van Schalkwyk on a crucial research project titled “Collectively disrupting intergenerational cultures of racialized and gendered violence: A case study of Chrysalis Academy, Western Cape, South Africa.” Through a decolonial, intersectional lens, Jessica aims to create spaces where violent cultures can be witnessed, acknowledged, interrogated, and ultimately disrupted using the GERI methodology.

Jessica’s presence aligns closely with AVReQ’s mission of fostering inclusive and equitable societies. We are excited about the transformative potential of her work and the positive impact it will have on our community and beyond.
