Current Research Project

Charleze’s research will fill a historiographical gap in the study of Stellenbosch University’s Theology Faculty by examining its history in relation to South African political history. While existing research focuses on the faculty’s development within the broader context of the university’s history, the connection between its evolution and the sociopolitical landscape of South Africa has largely been overlooked. This study will address this gap by analysing the faculty’s institutional history alongside the political history of the country, providing a comprehensive understanding of how South African political dynamics shaped the faculty’s trajectory and influence. The research highlights the intersection of theology, politics, and education at Stellenbosch University, offering new insights into its historical context.
