AVReQ is pleased to invite you to the launch of Dr Akuch Kuol Anyieth’s book, Decolonising Family Violence: Legal Intervention Orders in African-Australian Communities.

This book explores experiences of Family Violence Intervention Orders (FVIOs) in African-Australian communities in Victoria through an intersectional, decolonial lens. It critiques the limits of FVIOs, showing how culture, migration, gender, and exclusion shape experiences of violence and access to justice. Centring lived experiences, it calls for culturally grounded and context-specific approaches to safety and repair.

Professor Anthony Collins from La Trobe University, Australia will feature in the discussion as a respondent.
